Welcome to the Worlds Premier Theanine Website!
Theanine, a
flavor-enhancing element contained in green tea, is produced in the roots
and moves into the leaves. Amino acids in this element, which produce
mellowness, transform into an astringency element, catechins, when exposed
to sunlight. The mild taste peculiar to tencha and gyokuro is brought
about by reducing the sunlight. L-Theanine:
Is an amino acid naturally found in green tea that promotes relaxation
without the drowsiness or negative side effects associated with other
calming agents. L-Theanine
also supports healthy cardiovascular function through this relaxing
effect as well as its antioxidant properties.* Although theanine creates
a feeling of relaxation, it doesn't shut down the brain. Studies on rodents
show that theanine enhances the ability to learn and remember. By reducing
worry, theanine appears to increase concentration and focus thought.
What is L-theanine?
Since ancient times, it has been said that drinking green tea brings relaxation. The substance that is responsible for this sense of relaxation is L-theanine. L-theanine has shown the ability to promote deep muscle relaxation and improve good quality sleep. Even though L-theanine is found in green tea, it does not contain caffeine. L-theanine is simply one of the amino acids in green tea. Preliminary research, which needs to be carried much further before more specific claims for benefits can be properly made, suggests that l-theanine may be helpful for the following applications:
It has been indicated by laboratory studies that theanine produces these effects by increasing the level of GABA (gamma-amino-butyric acid), an important inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. GABA serves a sedative function that brings balance to excitability that can lead to restlessness, insomnia, and other disruptive conditions. Theanine also appears to increase levels of dopamine, another brain chemical with mood-enhancing effects, which can reduce blood pressure
